“We all shine on, like the moon, and the stars, and the sun” – John Lennon
Somewhere between the campsite, the arena, waking life and a dream, lies Outer Space: bluedot’s immersive arena of multi-sensory arts. An other-worldly realm of fire, smoke, glowing orbs and flickering light, Outer Space will once again be home to top-level installation artworks, created specifically for the area, including two premiere commissions. A fire, surrounded by a circle of bespoke wooden seating, will provide a place for late-night reflection under the stars.
Among this vibrant terrain will be a new addition for 2016, Colony by Mike Blow and Alison Ballard—an installation comprised of a series of sonic sculptures. Co-commissioned by Hogarth Productions and Oxford Contemporary Music and premiered at Arts by the Sea festival, these large, tactile, vivid installations allow you to experience the physicality of sound through listening, touching and hugging. This arresting and aurally entrancing work transforms the environment into an alien landscape and through light and sound, stirs into life before ebbing away.
Outer Space is open until 3am and best experienced after dark.
