#EarthDay this year focuses on the end of plastic pollution, a topic which has been at the forefront of the news and many people’s minds since The Blue Planet II. Hard-hitting images highlighted just how severe the plastic pollution issue is on our pale blue dot, becoming more of a hot topic and making people concious about the lifecycle of the plastic they use in their every day lives and where it ends up.

We’re working together with AIF going #DrasticOnPlastic, pledging to eliminate single-use plastics at the festival by 2021. Find out more about the #DrasticOnPlastic initiative HERE

At bluedot, we work closely with our friends at Jodrell Bank exploring how sustainability plays a central role across the festival through the work that we do at the festival and beyond. From the offset, one of our missions has always been to highlight the fragility of our pale blue dot. We programme the latest thinking and innovation in how researchers, scientists and more are working to protect Earth through DotTalks and exhibitors in our Planet Field, including The Met Office’s Richard Betts exploring Overheating the Pale Blue Dot: How Much Climate Change Can We Take? and The Carbon Impact of our Lifestyles stall.

We also have The Blue Planet in Concert with The Hallé joining us on the Thursday night, have banned plastic straws, provide staff with reusable steel bottles and encourage people to offset their carbon footprint with environmental charity Energy Revolution. We will also be selling our own water bottles which can be bought at the festival and online soon. Much more still to be announced for 2018.
