Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water – tropical parasites becoming temperate?

Numerous parasites are drivers of poverty and bring suffering to billions of people living in tropical climates. But are these ancient scourges of humankind limited to the tropics? Many parasites require water for their transmission or breeding of their vectors. Recent outbreaks of typically tropical parasites in UK and Europe highlight the need for extra vigilance and awareness as increasing global travel, migration and climate change brings the risk of extending the range of these chronic debilitating diseases
