Marc Abrahams (ESOF)

Marc Abrahams writes about research that makes people LAUGH, then THINK. Marc is the founder and Master of Ceremonies of the Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony. The prizes are handed out by genuine, amused Nobel laureates in a gala event held every year at Harvard University and broadcast on public radio. He co-founded and edits the magazine Annals of Improbable Research (AIR), hosts the Improbable Research weekly podcast, and wrote This is Improbable, The Ig Nobel Prizes, and other books. The Guardian said Marc’s writing is “rationalism taken to intoxicating extremes”. Marc is often a keynote speaker, supplying adrenalin to sleepy meeting goers. Every February, he hosts a special Improbable Research show that’s part of the Annual Meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

The founder of the IgNobel prize and very special guests (possibly QI Elves) and some other famous faces will be reading some weird and wonderful prose from research papers from around the world against the clock – laughs guaranteed.

Part of the ‘ESOF Presents…’series. On Saturday 23 July, leading academics and researchers from a range of scientific disciplines and fields of discovery will be making an appearance at bluedot ahead of speaking at the EuroScience Open Forum, Europe’s biggest science conference, which is taking place in Manchester 24 – 27 July.
