Mark Simpson (The Happy Soul)

Mark Simpson is a singer songwriter from Manchester. He sings in a soul/gospel style, and performs contemporary music on guitar. He has been performing in a band, The Happy Soul, for the past 3 years. This band has now grown into a 4-piece Power-pop/soul Vocal group.

Mark has been a major feature of the Manchester music scene as a solo performer for over a decade. Influenced by big voiced singers like Sam Cooke, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Mahalia Jackson, Otis Redding and Jeff Buckley, Mark tries to recapture the spirit of, and emulate his idols.

‘‘..the songs are very modern in their knowing wit, poetic surrealism and Belfast-sink melodrama. Some of them take unexpected twists and turns; others are comforting in their crafted popsong-ness. But what they all have in common is that they’ll stick in your head, become earworms and generally make themselves part of your life.” – Invisible Girl
