The Biggest of Big Data

We are now in the age of Big Data, from genome sequencing machines to particle accelerators, to the world’s largest radio telescope, the Square Kilometre Array (SKA). The SKA project is an international effort to build the world’s largest radio telescope, with eventually over a square kilometre (one million square metres) of collecting area spread across Australia and Africa. Considered to be one of the largest public science Big Data projects, eventually generating several times the global internet traffic of today, the SKA will be one of the defining big data challenges of the next coming decades, likely to drive innovations and spinoffs with wider societal impact in areas such as quantum computing, Internet of Things (IoT), Citizen Data Science, Machine Learning or Hybrid Cloud Computing amongst others.
