The Race for the Chinese Zodiac

Join the Manchester Confucius Institute to discover the story of the Chinese zodiac and try your hand at the art of Chinese paper folding.

Visit the stall and find out your Chinese zodiac animal sign and learn how to make a colourful animal book mark representing that.

Of all the animals in the world, why were these 12 chosen? There are several legends about how the Chinese Zodiac animals were chosen. Meet our teachers and listen to the most popular story of The Great Race.

The Confucius Institute at The University of Manchester offers expertise in Chinese language, culture and research. Besides the teaching of Chinese language though evening classes, school partnerships and teacher training programmes, the institute aims to encourage a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and contemporary China through a vibrant public events programme.
