LOVELL STAGE

The Lovell Stage is the hub of the bluedot universe. Situated in the shadow of the mighty Lovell telescope, the stage references the iconic structure that has been at the centre of our quest for discovery, in the known universe and beyond.

Completed in 1957, this paragon of engineering also represents a tribute to the physicist and radio astronomer Sir Bernard Lovell who not only conceived and constructed the world’s largest steerable radio telescope at the time (the Lovell Telescope is still the world’s third largest), but also directed the Jodrell Bank Observatory for 35 years.

The line-up for the Lovell Stage has been carefully curated to celebrate this visionary innovator and his soaring achievements, inviting the audience to consider humankind’s obsession with the heavens.
